Welcome, I guess if you are reading this you are considering some my of services and want to know about me. In 2004 after experiencing my own life changing personal circumstances, I was volunteering in a local hospice, many patients were sharing with me things that had happened in their personal lives which they wanted to get off their chest before passing, I discovered the importance of listening and enrolled on a course to further develop these skills with the aim of developing my bedside manner. Whilst on the course I discovered for myself how my history was impacting how I showed up in the present day. This was a pivotal moment in my life, It changed the course of my intended career. I discovered that even now 17 years post qualification a profession that I am deeply passionate about in all the different areas and aspects that I work in.
Through my training I began working with Children and Young People. This contrasted with working in a hospice with people who were at the end of their lives - these children were at the start of their lives, after witnessing for myself the changes that were taking place my passion for working with children and young people was discovered. This to me felt so important that they were able to have counselling early in their development to have the opportunity live their best lives.
In addition to this, I also worked with adults, which again highlighted to me the importance of having access to counselling. Witnessing first-hand the struggles that people were facing, the impact this was having on their mental health, their relationships, life and wellbeing. I started to see changes that clients were making in their lives, improvements in their relationships and wellbeing from the hard work they were doing in therapy all of which is incredibly humbling.
I was also having counselling myself as an adult and making changes in my own life which has been truly life changing. This highlighted to me the importance of everyone being able to access counselling should they wish to do so no matter which stage of their lives they are in.
After gaining substantial experience, I have expanded into other fields, including project management, Clinical supervision and delivering CPCAB Counselling Training. I was inspired by my tutor (Laura) during my training to become a counsellor. She challenged, supported, stretched and guided ensuring I was equipped to work safely and ethically with the best interest of the client at the heart of the work. All of this aided my development to becoming a counsellor and something I take forward as a tutor myself.
I have also developed an interest in supporting new counsellors beyond there qualification and continue to provide guidance as a clinical supervisor overseeing the work of other counsellors.
In February 2025 was the beginning of a new project for me, Survivors of Sexual violence, an area that I have quietly worked with in my practice and have taken the decision develop this further.
There are agencies that are doing some fantastic work, providing support and counselling to survivors of sexual abuse for free and long may this continue. There is a mix of short term 12 sessions and some longer-term work available too, with funding limited and many agencies facing the prospect of their counselling services being reduced or closed.
In contrast to this I am also aware how much of this work shows up outside of these specialist agencies. In therapists private practices who are no always adequatley trained to work with this specialsit area. Also there are a vast amount of people that do not want counselling but would like some support. I want to give people the choice and to be able to have control over their healing. Survivors-Support was born.
My aim is for clients to have access to fully qualified, registered therapists delivering specialist counselling offering short- and long-term work at AFFORDABLE prices. Enabling survivors to choose if they would like short or long term support with the option of alternative methods of support also available. I have developed an online workshop giving survivors some education, coping strategies and tools to support them.
This is a project that I have profound sense of purpose for and feel personally connected too. A passion that goes even deeper as I too am a survivor am very aware of the sheer magnitude of devastation this can have on people’s lives. This is a project that is in its infancy and thus far is continuing to develop………
