Welcome, I guess if you are reading this you are considering some my of services and want to know some more about me.
In 2004 after experiencing my own devastating personal circumstances I began volunteering in a local hospice, many patients were sharing with me details from their personal lives. Untold stories which they wanted to get off their chest before passing. I saw for myself the importance of listening and enrolled on a course to further develop these skills. Whist studying I discovered for myself how my history was impacting how I showed up in the present relationships. This was a pivotal moment in my life and changed the directions of my intended career path. I discovered a profession that 17 years post qualification work that I am deeply passionate about in all the different areas that I work in.
During my training I began working with Children and Young People. This contrasted with working in a hospice with people who were at the end of their lives - these children were at the start of their lives, after witnessing for myself the changes that were taking place my passion for working with children and young people was discovered.
I also worked with adults, and again highlighted to me the importance of having access to counselling. Witnessing first-hand the struggles that people were facing, the impact this was having on their mental health, relationships, and overall life.. I saw changes that clients were making. improvements in relationships, wellbeing. All from the hard work they were doing in therapy, which is incredibly humbling.
I also decided to have counselling myself, and began making my own changes. It has been one of the best things I have ever done.
This highlighted to me the importance of everyone being able to access counselling should they wish to do so no matter which stage of their lives they are in.
After gaining substantial experience, I have expanded into other fields, such as project management, Clinical supervision and delivering CPCAB Counselling Training.
I was inspired during my training to become a Tutor myself. My Tutor (Laura) challenged, supported and guided me. Ensuring I was equipped to work safely and ethically with the best interest of the client at the heart of the work. All of this aided my development to becoming a counsellor and something I take forward as a tutor myself.
Throughout my career sexual violence has been a thread that I have worked with in different stages of peoples lives. From children and young people where a safeguarding disclosure has taken place through to working with adults around recent or non recent abuse, assault or rape. This area is an area `I feel personally connected too as I am also a survivor. I have taken the decision develop this further and in Feb 2025 survivors-support was born.
