Trauma-Informed Counselling for Sexual Abuse Survivors
You are not alone. Healing is possible — and it begins with feeling safe.
If you’ve experienced sexual abuse, you may carry deep pain, confusion, or shame — sometimes silently, sometimes all-consuming. It might feel hard to trust, to talk about what happened, or to even believe healing is possible.
Here’s what we want you to know:
What happened to you was not your fault. You are not broken — and you don’t have to face this alone.
Offering trauma-informed counselling rooted in empathy, safety, and deep respect. You’ll be met exactly where you are, with care that honours your pace, your story, and your strength.
What Is Trauma-Informed Counselling?
Trauma-informed counselling means I understand how trauma — especially sexual abuse — can affect every part of your life: your body, your emotions, your relationships, your sense of self.
We take all of that into account and shape our approach to support your healing in ways that feel safe and empowering. This includes:
Safety — building a space where you feel physically and emotionally secure
Choice — you are always in control of what we talk about and how we move forward
Trust — the foundation of everything we do
Compassion — we hold space for your pain, without judgment
How Counselling Can Help
You might be navigating:
Flashbacks or unwanted memories
Anxiety, panic, or difficulty sleeping
Deep shame, guilt, or self-blame
Disconnection from your body or emotions
Challenges with trust, intimacy, or boundaries
Feeling “stuck” or unsure how to move forward
Whatever you’re feeling — it’s a valid response to trauma. We’ll support you in making sense of your experiences, reconnecting with your inner voice, and building tools for healing and resilience.
Therapeutic Approach
We draw from several evidence-based and compassionate modalities, tailored to your needs and comfort:
Creative and Expressive Therapy
Sometimes words aren't enough — or too much. These approaches support you in telling your story in ways that feel meaningful, creative, and empowering, without pressure to relive painful memories.
A Space Where You’re in Control
We know how important it is to feel safe. That’s why you set the pace — always. You’ll never be pushed to share more than you’re ready for. We’ll check in regularly, listen deeply, and move forward only when it feels right for you.
Opportunity to Heal
You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t need to be “ready” in any perfect way. Just taking this step — reading this, wondering if healing is possible — is brave.
Person-Centred Therapy
At the heart of our work is a deep belief in your inner capacity to heal. In a person-centred space, you lead the way. We offer empathy, unconditional positive regard, and a non-judgmental presence, allowing your voice and truth to guide the process.
Psychodynamic Therapy
We can gently explore how early experiences, unconscious patterns, and relational wounds may still be impacting your present life. This approach can help you make meaningful connections between past and present, giving you insight, clarity, and the freedom to move forward differently.
Transactional Analysis (TA)
TA helps us understand the different "parts" or states within us — like our inner child, nurturing parent, or critical voice. It can shine a light on old patterns in your thinking, feeling, or relating, and gently support you in changing dynamics that no longer serve you. TA is especially useful for unpacking messages we’ve internalized from early life — including those shaped by abuse or neglect — and reclaiming your right to feel safe, worthy, and in control.
Somatic (Body-Based) Therapy
Trauma often lives in the body. Somatic approaches help you tune into your physical sensations, regulate your nervous system, and feel more grounded and present.
Trauma-Focused CBT
We use CBT tools thoughtfully, helping you identify and reframe beliefs rooted in trauma, develop coping strategies, and strengthen your inner sense of safety and control.
The first step is a confidential consultation so you can get a sense of whether this feels right for you. There will be no pressure, just a chance to make the decision that is right for you
You are not alone. When you’re ready, we’re here.
