Trauma Counselling
Trauma-Informed Counselling
Trauma can affect how we think, feel, relate to others, and experience the world around us. Sometimes the impact of difficult experiences is obvious, while at other times it can show up in ways that feel confusing or difficult to understand.
You may be experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, low mood, difficulties trusting others, feeling constantly on edge, emotional overwhelm, low self-worth, relationship difficulties, or a sense that something does not feel right. These experiences can sometimes be linked to past events that felt overwhelming, frightening, unsafe, or beyond your ability to cope at the time.
Trauma counselling provides a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space to explore these experiences and their impact on your life.
What Is Trauma?
Trauma is not defined by the event itself but by how the experience affects the individual.
Trauma can result from a single event or from ongoing experiences over time. Examples may include:
Abuse or neglect
Sexual violence
Domestic abuse
Bullying
Bereavement and loss
Childhood adversity
Relationship trauma
Medical trauma
Accidents or injuries
Witnessing distressing events
Everyone responds differently to difficult experiences, and there is no "right" way to react.
Signs That Trauma May Be Affecting You
The effects of trauma can vary from person to person and may include:
Anxiety and excessive worry
Panic attacks
Hypervigilance or feeling constantly alert
Difficulties sleeping
Flashbacks or intrusive memories
Emotional numbness
Feeling disconnected from yourself or others
Low self-esteem or self-worth
Shame or self-blame
Difficulties trusting people
Relationship difficulties
People-pleasing or struggling with boundaries
Feeling overwhelmed by emotions
You do not need to have experienced a major event or have a diagnosis of PTSD to benefit from trauma-informed counselling.
A Trauma-Informed Approach
As a trauma-informed counsellor, I recognise the importance of safety, trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment within the therapeutic relationship.
Counselling is not about forcing you to revisit difficult experiences before you are ready. Instead, we work together at a pace that feels manageable and supportive for you.
The focus is on understanding your experiences, recognising your strengths, and helping you develop greater awareness, resilience, and self-compassion.

Better understand the impact of past experiences
