Exploring Dreams Through Theory, Reflection and Counselling Practice

6 Hours CPD

Dreams have fascinated people for centuries, yet they can often feel one of the most uncertain areas of counselling practice. As counsellors, we may wonder whether to explore dreams, how to approach them safely and, perhaps most importantly, how to avoid imposing our own meaning onto someone else's experience.

In this workshop, we'll explore a range of perspectives on dreams and consider how they can deepen our understanding of clients and the therapeutic relationship. Together, we'll think about different theoretical approaches, including Jungian and Gestalt perspectives, while recognising that there is no single "correct" interpretation of a dream.

Rather than looking for hidden meanings or symbolic answers, we'll explore how dreams can become part of a collaborative conversation, helping clients reflect on their experiences, emotions and personal meaning in ways that feel respectful, curious and empowering.

My aim isn't to teach dream interpretation. It's to help you develop the confidence to work with dreams thoughtfully, ethically and collaboratively, allowing clients to discover their own understanding rather than searching for ours.

During this workshop we'll explore:

  • Why dreams may emerge in therapy.

  • Different theoretical perspectives on dream work.

  • Jungian and Gestalt approaches to dreams.

  • Working collaboratively with dream material.

  • Curiosity rather than interpretation.

  • Ethical considerations when exploring dreams.

  • When dream work may be helpful and when it may not be appropriate.

  • Using dreams to deepen understanding within the therapeutic relationship.

Suitable for: Qualified counsellors, counsellors in training, clinical supervisors wishing to develop confidence in working with dreams within contemporary counselling practice..
